A Next Best Thing Production for Norwich Theatre in the Parks 1997
 

A great combination of old faces and new talent combined to bring Shakespeare's dark comedy to life. Next Best Thing's strong visual flair was once again in evidence as this disturbing 1603 play was updated to the 1920s. A Depression-era Europe was the setting for this tale of moral decline and political double-dealing and proved extremely successful. Next Best Thing veterans Warren Howard and Kelly Westlake excelled as the corrupt Angelo and the virtuous Isabella, whilst a newcomer to the stage, Lee Higham, proved a suitably confident and cocky Lucio. It was a troubled production which went through significant recasting, but thanks to everyone in the cast who displayed talent and humour throughout, the show exceeded all our expectations. The outdoor settings again proved popular with the public, with the magnificent backdrop of Norwich Castle , for some of the performances, adding to the drama.
